Ron is a multi-talented individual, an experienced songwriter/performer and member of SOCAN, SAC, CMPA and CCMA. He has developed Young Songwriters, a music program that teaches the craft of song writing in elementary schools, and is the creator and director of the Songwriters Music Festival. Not only is Ron a successful recording artist but since 1978 is the owner/operator of the Family Self Defense Centre, a martial arts school in Markham. Ron holds belt designations in 23 different martial arts disciplines.
From the martial arts perspective, Ron has taught many styles of martial arts and developed a junior coaching program in an apprenticeship style for children ages 4 to 7 and 8 to 12 years. Ron also created a national coaching certification program for marital art instructors called Shoot Wrestling Canada.
As an author Ron has written and published a variety of training and coaching manuals, books and videos for martial arts and law enforcement including a national coaching program for the Association for Law Enforcement, Tactical Control Systems.
On the musical side of things, Ron plays Piano, Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo, Harmonica, Melodica, Celtic Flute, and Baritone Ukulele. Ron is a graduate of recognized and respected Humber College musical program. Ron has performed for 40 years, and his historic profile is extensive and includes:
More recently Ron organized/hosted Songwriters Music Festival in Whitby showcasing teen and adult songwriters from Victoria, Halifax, and the Durham region, united regional songwriters groups from the songwriters Association of Canada, while continuing to perform and write new material to follow up on his current 2 CDs on the charts.
As well as the Songwriters Music Festival creation aimed at youth, a volunteer position, Ron continues to share his performance skills in other volunteering areas through programs in Markham for Songwriters in the Markham Hospital and at a CMHA (Canadian Mental Health Association) residence where he provides monthly on-site performances accompanied by his performance associates Rick and Alan.
Ron has sought and received an insurance package for coverage of these program proposals and has also received his updated police Vulnerable Sector Screening check and recent CPR training. Due to Rons efforts, several songwriters are now recognized by SOCAN (The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) as professional songwriters with all rights and privileges. Ron continues preparing for his next CD with a targeted 2013 release and is developing the next version of the Boogie Boy Blues show which will include a Puppet Rock Show.
